Preceding the concert, we will be hosting an Open House from 5:30-6:30 PM.
We welcome everyone to attend our April 26 Arts Showcase! We will be showcasing the work of all participants in the 2025 Photography Contest, as well as presenting an award ceremony for the winners. We will also have the work of several established photographers on display in the galleries. The event will take place from 2:00-5:00 PM, consisting of an Open House from 2:00-3:00, musical performances from 3:35-4:00, a photography presentation from 4:00-4:20, and an award ceremony/photo opportunity from 4:20-5:00. We strongly encourage the entire Laureate community to attend, and we are looking forward to seeing you there!
April 15th and 16th are exam days! We are wishing all students the best as they complete their exams for Term 3. Following the final exams, students will have an opportunity to meet with their teachers on exam review day, on April 17th. Term 4 will begin on April 22nd.
Drop-In Days
We are hosting a series of Drop-In Days to meet the Junior School Principal, Mr. Robert Hamilton. The Drop-In Days have gone well so far, but we could always use the help of the Laureate College community in referring families to us. Students who have joined the LC Community starting Term 3
Saran
Saran is a grade 10 boarding student from Mie, Japan. She is involved in the Film, Year Book, Baking and Short Film clubs this term, and Year Book club is her favourite because she enjoys contributing her own ideas. Her classes this term are Communications Technology and ESL. She especially enjoys the ESL class because she is learning to improve her communication skills. Outside of school, Saran enjoys ballet, music, singing, and calling with her friends in Japan.
Ugo
Ugo is a boarding student from Nigeria in grade 11. In Term 3, Ugo took Physics and Understanding Contemporary First Nations. In his free time, Ugo enjoys playing soccer, listening to music, and playing video games. After school, Ugo enjoys going to the gym at the YMCA a few times a week with his fellow students.
Cici
Cici is a new student starting in Term 4 in grade 12. For the last couple weeks, Cici has been sitting in on classes to get used to her new school schedule. She has especially found the geography class interesting. Cici has also been getting involved in clubs, participating in Volunteering, IELTS, and Chess. Besides academics, Cici is an opera singer who will be performing on April 26 as well as helping the Burlington Children's Choir prepare for their May 10 performance. At her last school, she competed in and won the Ontario Vocal Festival with her singing club.

We are making steady progress in the renovation of room 120, with work on replacing the floors beginning yesterday on April 14. We are very excited to see these improvements coming to life, and will be sure to update our community on any changes.
Weekly Spotlight
ESLA: Level 1 ESL
Worked on practicing grammar, sentence structure, speaking, and comprehension skills in preparation for the final assessment.
Students have a final analysis to complete of their learning strategies and what they have acquired throughout the course. They need a visual as well which will be presented on exam day.
We completed units on natural disasters and physical regions of Canada. Once finished, we prepared for the final exam by working on and taking up five different review activities that covered content from the entire term.
We watched a TedTalk about the experience of learning a second language and completed an activity worksheet related to the topics discussed and chosen means of communication. We then watched a short film entitled "The Other Pair" and completed an analysis chart about its content, themes, and messages. In the last few days, we prepared for the final exam by competing activity worksheets on material covered throughout the entire term.
In the first week, we finished reading chapters 10-15 of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein and completed the accompanying comprehension questions. In the second week, we read through chapters 16-24, completed related reading comprehension questions, and worked through 3 review activities for the course material in preparation for the final exam.
We covered the last few units of the course, which included the foundations of the Canadian Government, the process of passing bills, and the electoral system in Canada. In the last week, we prepared for the final exam by completing three different review activities covering all the material throughout the entire course.
We completed the quadratics unit with solving quadratics and applications in word problems. We moved on to the final unit on trigonometry. Prepared for final exams.
Students worked on design and developed a 3-page website on a topic of their choice. This project will test their creativity, technical skills, and ability to apply web design principles. They also shared their daily progress in the class chat to document work and receive feedback.
Students prepared a portfolio of 10 photos inspired by a photographer or photography style of their choice. This project will allow them to explore personal style, demonstrate the skills they learned, and present a creative response to the photographer or theme they selected.
Fuseina continues to work at the Montessori. This week, she led some activities. For example, she led one to help the children learn to recognize words using a flashcard matching game (matching the image card to the word card).

We completed the unit on molecular genetics with a discussion on the ethics of DNA technologies (ex. cloning, gene editing) and a gene regulation simulation lab. We have now started the homeostasis unit. The students are working on a reflexes lab (test the speed of their own reflexes and the factors that affect them).
We have completed algebraic vectors with vector multiplication (both dot product and cross product) and its applications. They are working on an independent assignment.
There will be no classes on either Good Friday or Easter Monday. Enjoy your time off!
2025/2026 Re-registration Deadline
Reminder! The re-registration deadline is April 20 for those who did not take advantage of the early-bird discount. There will be a late fee of $300 for registration after the April deadline. We are looking forward to welcoming back students for the 2025/2026 school year!
New Attendance Reporting Procedure
Moving forward, parents are asked to report any absences or late arrivals to attendance@laureatecollege.ca or call the school and leave a message.
Lost and Found
All lost items should please be returned to the front desk in the lobby. If you are missing any belongings please speak to Kathryn at the front desk to see if they have been returned.
Snow Day Procedures
For any snow days or school closures, the school principal will inform staff and faculty members at 6:45 am. The house advisors will then inform their students accordingly.
Cell Phone Policy
As of September 2024, the Ontario Ministry of Education introduced the No Cell Phone Policy during school hours. There was discretion at the secondary level to use cell phones as a learning tool under the direction of the teachers that we followed in term 1 and 2. However, the observations from staff is that cell phones are being used for personal reasons.
Therefore, starting term 3 (Wednesday January 29, 2025), no cell phone is permitted from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm. If students are involved in an after-school club, no cell phones are permitted from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. For boarding students, cell phones are permitted after 4:30 pm and during study hall.
If the new policy is not adhered to, the students will be reported to the office and required to leave their cell phone in the main office until the end of the school day. Repeated violation of no cell phone will lead to further consequences. If there is an emergency where you must contact your child, please call the main office at 416-800-8434 where arrangements will be made to connect you with your child.

Congratulations to our Camp Laureate team for reaching 46% capacity for our 2025 summer camp, with 544 registrations already in the month of January! Each week of camp is packed with Science, Technology, Sports, and Arts sessions, led by our highly qualified specialists and supported by a low camper-to-counselor ratio. Campers enjoy a mix of specialty programs, traditional camp activities, and nutritious lunches prepared by our kitchen staff. PowerSchool serves as Laureate's online platform, providing you with access to your child's academic progress, grades, and attendance records. New timetables are now available to view. myBlueprint is used to track students grades and past/present courses, and will be used next year for course selection. Using myBlueprint, students can look up college and university requirements as well as what's included in the programs they're interested in. Students can also use myBlueprint to research careers and internships, as well as build resumes, cover letters and budgets.

Easter Celebration
On April 14th, students enjoyed Easter activities. Students watched a short video on the importance and meaning behind Easter, before painting eggs and receiving chocolate bunnies.

Inside the Junior School
A Message From Mr. Robert Hamilton
The academic program at Laureate College Junior School is designed to engage students in real-life problem-solving activities. These activities, or inquiries, require students to participate in creative applications of aspects of the Math, Language, and Science curriculum as well as varying expectations from other subject areas. These practical activities will be especially engaging as students work to solve problems that exist in society today, both locally and on a global level. Students will create models and even concrete representations of their ideas that may lead to innovations and even alleviate challenges that people face today. To ensure we create the best environment for these creations, I have been visiting Innovation Rooms in different schools across the Halton Region to collect best practices. With this information, we will build our own Innovation Lab that will be ready for September. I am excited to see our lab take shape!
