Principal's Message

As we begin February, we move deeper into the second half of the school year—a time when focus, perseverance, and routine become especially important. While winter continues outside, the learning and growth happening inside our classrooms remain strong. This is a valuable moment to reset goals, maintain positive habits, and stay committed to finishing the year well.

This time of year can be demanding for students and staff alike, which makes personal well-being especially important. I encourage students to prioritize healthy routines—getting enough sleep, eating well, staying active, and reaching out for support when needed. Small habits can make a big difference. Our teachers and support staff are always available to help students manage workload, stress, and expectations, and we appreciate families reinforcing these healthy practices at home.

And of course, we can’t let February begin without a nod to Groundhog Day! Whether Wiarton Willie predicts six more weeks of winter or an early spring, one thing is certain: brighter days are ahead. At Laureate College, we continue to focus on growth, resilience, and progress—no shadow required.

Visitors at the School

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. In order to enhance all of the safety procedures we currently have in place, we have now implemented a " Visitor Badge" identification system . All visitors to the school MUST sign in and take a Visitor Badge upon arrival at the reception area during the Instructional part of the day.

Thank you for your support in our attempt to make the school the safest place possible for your child.

Term 2 Final Report Cards

The final report cards for Term 2 classes will be sent home on Friday February 6th. If you have any questions, please reach out to the classroom teacher.

House System: Term 3 STEAM Project

Students are taking on an exciting STEAM challenge this term: designing and building the tallest free‑standing structure they can using only popsicle sticks and tape. Working within a limit of 1000 sticks, students plan, sketch, build, test, and refine their creations—mirroring the real‑world process engineers use. Their structures must be able to stand independently and remain upright when exposed to wind from a fan, encouraging thoughtful design choices and strong problem‑solving skills.

Throughout the project, students will explore concepts from science, engineering, mathematics, art, and technology as they experiment with balance, stability, shape, and materials. In addition to building their structure, each group will also write a one‑page reflection explaining their design strategies and what they learned along the way.

Beyond the Classroom

Term 3 clubs are now underway, giving students a wide range of opportunities to stay active, explore interests, and connect with peers outside of regular class time. This term’s offerings include volunteer service, choir, fitness, boxing and self-defence, video games, hairdressing, film, co-curricular study, and dance. From creative and performing arts to practical skills, fitness, and structured study support, the programme is designed to balance enrichment, wellbeing, and enjoyment. Clubs provide an important space for students to try something new, build confidence, and engage meaningfully with school life beyond the academic timetable.

Duke of Edinburgh Adventurer

Four of Laureate’s Duke of Edinburgh warriors stepped into the snowy trails of Mount Nemo for their very first Adventurous Journey. With crisp winter air and fresh snow underfoot, the group entered the woods with curiosity, courage, and a real sense of teamwork.

Throughout the trip, our students learned hands‑on outdoor skills that challenged them to think, lead, and support one another. They practiced building a tent in the snow, discovering how leadership and communication make even the coldest tasks easier. They worked together to start a winter fire, learning patience, safety, and resilience. Under the clear night sky, they enjoyed stargazing, connecting navigation and nature in a quiet, memorable moment. And of course, they capped off the experience by cooking a warm meal in the winter wilderness, a true lesson in problem‑solving and cooperation.

Laureate is proud to continue as an official Duke of Edinburgh Award center, offering opportunities for students who actively seek to develop leadership, initiative, teamwork, perseverance, confidence, and outdoor competence. Experiences like this encourage them to step outside their comfort zones and discover strengths they may not have known they had.

Congratulations to our four adventurers on completing their first journey—many more challenges and achievements lie ahead!
