On September 30, Canadians across the country recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. At Laureate College, this day is an important opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and reflect on the history and lasting impact of residential schools, while honoring the strength, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
We encourage our school community to wear orange shirts as a symbol of our collective commitment to ensuring that “Every Child Matters.” This small act reminds us of the importance of compassion, respect, and building understanding across generations.
Truth and Reconciliation is more than a single day—it’s a journey of learning and growth we take together. We are grateful to walk this path as a school community, supporting one another in listening, reflecting, and creating a more caring future.
Senior School in Focus
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Mid-Term Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on October 9th. Classroom teachers will be reaching out either via email or a phone call to arrange a convenient time to meet in-person or virtually.
School Photos
Student photos will be taken during the morning of Friday, October 10. We have arranged to have Brightpics School Photography join us and take our school photos. Photos will be taken for student cards, however if you wish to purchase a photo package information will be available that day for ordering.
Visitors from China
This past Tuesday, Laureate College hosted a team of private school Principals from China. They had a tour of the school to see the great things happening in both elementary and secondary classrooms. I had the opportunity to address and introduce our high school program to them during a meeting that was hosted by Dr. Shen. I stressed our difference from other schools being that one of our goals is to build relationships and show the students that we care about them, and their growth.
Busing Update
Starting October 1, our Laureate College van will be equipped with a real-time tracking device. Parent can register for this device using their smart phone. Please go to: https://www.trackem.com/pages/laureate-college-bus-tracking-registration You will be asked to follow 3 easy steps, which will include downloading an app for your phone. The cost is $60 per year which equates to $6 per month. That’s a good rate for peace of mind. For any bus program inquiries or parent change requests, email bus@laureatecollege.ca.

Student visitors from China
This week, we host students from a school in Shanghai China. Some of them joined our afternoon ESL class for two days and spend a morning in our Physical Education class. It is a great opportunity for all students involved to gain mutual cultural awareness, understanding, and share highlights of school and daily life.
Lockers
We now have lockers on the second floor for student use. Priority will be given to Day Students, so they have a secure place to store their belongings. Please see Mr. Saunders if you wish to have a locker assigned.
Attendance – absence, late or leaving school early
Please email attendance@laureatecollege.ca at least 24 hours in advance to inform the School about your absences, late arrivals, or early departures from school.
Student Advisor
Each LC Senior School student will be assigned to a student advisor. The student advisor will work with students on a weekly basis to address their personal, academic, financial, post-secondary, and career goals. They will act as mentors, providing guidance and social-emotional support to students, and communicating with parents to offer feedback.
As we wrap up the first month of school, our boarding community is already in full swing. New and returning students have settled comfortably into campus life, building routines that balance study, fun, and friendship.
Daily Life and After-School Highlights
Evening study period is off to an excellent start, with strong attendance and a positive, focused atmosphere. After-school clubs are thriving as well—students are exploring new interests, sharing talents, and strengthening friendships across grades and houses.
Memorable Weekend Adventures
Our first month has also been packed with weekend outings that showcase the best of Ontario:
Niagara Falls – breathtaking views and plenty of photo ops
Royal Ontario Museum – a day of art, science, and culture
Laser Tag – friendly competition and teamwork
Ontario Universities Fair – inspiration and guidance for future academic plans
These trips have been a great way to relax after a busy week and create lasting memories.
Looking Ahead
The coming weeks promise even more opportunities to connect and grow together. Students can look forward to seasonal activities, new clubs, and more weekend adventures designed to bring our boarding family closer and make this a year to remember.
