Yesterday was one of those days that warms the heart of an educator. The Senior school hosted the Junior school for an outdoor experiential learning field trip entitled, The Decision Lab. Junior students were divided into cross-grade groups and rotated through hands-on activities that challenged them to think critically, work as a team, and make decisions. From navigating survival scenarios to solving real-world challenges, this experience was both active and thought-provoking.
Seeing the Senior students supporting and helping the Junior students through the activities was wonderful and they did an amazing job encouraging them to think, share, explain, and work together. The Junior students were engaged and hearing them talk through the problems and work together to reach consensus on the decisions was rewarding for their teachers, and me.
Junior School Update
As part of their Social Studies learning this week the Grade 3/4 class, students explored the important topic of environmental stewardship. Each student selected an environmental issue to research and created an informative presentation to share their learning. It was inspiring to see the students’ passion and creativity as they discovered ways we can all make a positive impact on our world.
This week the Grade 5/6s was all about estimating! Students began our new estimating unit and participated in fun activities such as Guess How Many, filling in number lines, and comparing numbers to reactivate and rebuild their understanding of estimation skills.
This week, the Grade 7 and 8 students became young scientists as they explored the exciting topics of Thermal Energy and Water Quality through hands-on STEM challenges! The Grade 7 students worked collaboratively to investigate how much thermal energy is produced by different types of light bulbs, including LED, incandescent, and fluorescent bulbs. Students observed, tested, and compared the heat generated by each bulb while discussing which options are the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Meanwhile, the Grade 8 students took on the role of water quality researchers by testing a variety of water samples and common household products to determine their pH levels. Working together, students analyzed whether substances were acidic, neutral, or basic, and discussed how pH can impact both our environment and everyday life.
Throughout both investigations, students demonstrated excellent teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while engaging in meaningful scientific exploration.
They also started venturing into Supercode. A world of adventures and challenges to introduce them into Coding language. Our other classes are also getting introduced to Supercode.
Traffic Reminder
With the nice weather students both from LC and the Waterdown Montessori School are excited and enjoying running outside. So PLEASE SLOW DOWN and exercise caution when driving on campus as students can get more excited to see mom or dad, than to see a car moving towards them. Help keep all our children safe.

It is a season of profound celebration at Laureate College. As university offers keep arriving, the atmosphere in our senior hallways has shifted from one of nervous anticipation to one of well-earned excitement. Seeing our students realize their dreams and secure paths to prestigious institutions around the world is, for all of us, the ultimate reward of this journey.
However, as we enter these final weeks of the academic year, I want to reach out to you regarding a common phenomenon in secondary education: the temptation to "check out" once the goal of university admission feels achieved.
While the "finish line" of admissions has been crossed, the "launchpad" of their actual university experience is still being built. I ask for your partnership in encouraging your children to maintain their academic momentum and finish this year with the excellence and integrity that defined their time at Laureate.
There are three vital reasons why finishing strong matters:
Academic Readiness: The transition to university-level rigor is significant. The habits students cultivate now— attending classes, being on time, disciplined study, meeting deadlines, and deep engagement with complex material—are the very tools they will need in their first semester of higher education. To stop practicing these skills now is to arrive at university "out of breath."
The Power of Character: How we finish a journey is a profound reflection of our character. Completing their final projects and exams with pride ensures that our students leave Laureate with their heads high, knowing they gave their best until the final bell.
The Conditional Nature of Success: It is important to remind our students that almost all university offers are conditional. They are predicated on the successful completion of their current courses at a standard consistent with their previous performance.
I encourage you to have a conversation with your graduate this weekend. Acknowledge their hard work and the relief they feel, but challenge them to see these final weeks as a "training camp" for their future. Help them stay focused on their routines, celebrate the small victories of these final assignments, and remind them that the best way to honor their future is to respect their present.
We are so proud of the Class of 2026. Let’s work together to ensure they finish this chapter of their lives not just with a diploma, but with a sense of immense personal accomplishment.
Our Class of 2026 has already earned over 100 offers from universities and over 1.4 million in scholarships to date, with acceptances across Engineering, Business, Arts, Sciences, Media, Bachelor of Education, and more.
