Recent educational research continues to highlight that the single most effective predictor of a student’s success and well-being is the presence of at least one strong, supportive relationship with a caring adult at school. This "mentorship model" moves beyond the traditional delivery of facts and focuses on the holistic development of the learner. At Laureate College, we purposefully design our programs—from small class sizes to our advisory sessions—to ensure that meaningful mentorship is at the core of the student experience.
For our students, this means that learning happens within a "safety net" of trust. When a student views their teacher as a mentor, they are more likely to take intellectual risks, ask difficult questions, and persist through academic challenges. Our faculty prides itself in not just knowing their subject matter, but in the art of listening and guidance. This relationship-first approach ensures that we are not just preparing students for exams, but for life. By fostering these deep connections, we empower our scholars to discover their unique strengths and navigate their educational paths with confidence and resilience.
This week we welcomed the Director and Vice Principal from Shanghai Arete Bilingual School, our sister-school. They were treated to a tour, lunch, and a whole school assembly in which some of elementary and secondary students performed with music and song. I was fortunate to spend some time sharing and collaborating ideas with them we each became more understanding of one another’s learning institutions. It was interesting to hear that even though we are literally worlds apart, many of the learning pedagogy and struggles encountered are similar. We are looking forward to sharing more collaboration in the future.
Tomorrow is our annual Mother’s Day Concert in the Chapel. It begins at 6:30pm. Tickets are still available.
To all the Moms, enjoy a weekend filled with love, laughs and joy. Happy Mother’s Day.
Junior School Update
Traffic Reminder
With the nice weather students both from LC and the Waterdown Montessori School are excited and enjoying running outside. So PLEASE SLOW DOWN and exercise caution when driving on campus as students can get more excited to see mom or dad, than to see a car moving towards them. Help keep all our children safe.
Uniform Reminder
On non-gym days students are expected to be in regular school uniforms, grey pants or skirt along with school shirt.
Coding
Starting next week classes will have the opportunity to explore some Coding in class with a program called Supercode. It is an engaging software to help students learn and be comfortable with coding. It can also address differences in ability levels so should be able to challenge all students.

As the weather warms up we need to remind students about proper decorum and behaviour around school. For some reason the Spring season often brings with it the Spring Silly Season where students forget expectations and guidelines thus resulting in poor decision making and behaviour not reflective of their maturity and responsibility.
Our Class of 2026 has already earned almost 100 offers from universities and 1.4 million in scholarships to date, with acceptances across Engineering, Business, Arts, Sciences, Media, Bachelor of Education, and more.
